About

Paintings and Drawings on this website cover from 2000 onwards when seriously started painting again. The website contains both figurative and abstract work. I am not wedded to a definite way or style of working and prefer responding to an idea with whatever means is most appropriate. Certain ideas do however return and as I write this in August 2020 I am again drawn back to describing my experience of landscape travelled through, much as I did in the early 2000’s.

I have always wanted to keep a sense of spontaneity in the work, allowing the painting or drawing to develop alongside the experience of looking. Experimentation is central to this process in combining materials and allowing for accident to happen.

Working in series allows me to make work that flows, developing themes and ideas and running ideas to their creative conclusion. Much of the work here tells a story of one sort or another some more obviously narrative than others.

Originally from Kent I have lived abroad and in many parts of England and have now settled in Herefordshire with my family. The incredible landscape here has always been a significant influence on me as seasons pass and everything changes. Even though most of it has been shaped by Agriculture over the centuries, areas remain wild (and dark) and there are always fascinating reminders of this wherever you walk.

My professionally background is in Art Education and College management.

I have work in private collections both in England and abroad and have exhibited in group shows and individually (including the Oriel open, Newtown, Silk Top Gallery Ludlow, the Hurst - Arvon Foundation, Shropshire and Walkdontwalk gallery in Deal).
